Juvederm Voluma Results | Medical Spa | Cosmetic Dermatology | Austin TX

Juvederm Voluma is a popular anti-aging facial skin care procedure specifically aimed at adding volume to the cheeks and other depleted areas of the face. Juvederm Voluma injectable treatment is the first and only treatment to have received the FDA’s approval for cheek volumizing. Patients can expect to achieve outstanding results without the risks typically associated with a surgery.

During the initial cosmetic dermatology consultation, the treatment provider will discuss various aspects of Juvederm Voluma including its expected results. The patient may also receive Juvederm Voluma before and after images at this time to have a clear idea about what kind of outcomes can be achieved for the face. Dr. Steven Zimmet is a pre-eminent dermatologist who receives patients from Austin, TX and surrounding areas for Juvederm Voluma.

Different from Average Dermal Fillers

Juvederm Voluma results are going to be a little different from what is usually expected from an average skin care treatment or dermal filler. This is because Juvederm Voluma works in a different area, which is the cheek. While the aesthetic goal with standard facial fillers is to reduce facial wrinkles, lines and folds, the specific goal with Voluma is to add volume to the cheeks and provide a subtle lift to the cheeks.

Results

Patients can expect a fuller and rounder facial contour with volume restoration in the cheek area with Juvederm Voluma aesthetic dermatology treatment. Results are almost instant in terms of the addition of a youthful curve to the cheeks as the Voluma gel is injected deep into the targeted area. Over a few days, as the swelling and redness disappears, the enhanced and lifted facial appearance can be noticed.

Dr. Zimmet is an experienced dermatologist providing Juvederm Voluma injectable treatment to patients in Austin, TX and nearby locations. Results are typically safe and predictable, more so because Voluma gel is based on hyaluronic acid. This is naturally occurring substance in the body, which requires no prior allergy tests.

Near-instant plumping of the cheek area can be achieved, resulting in a fuller and rounder facial contour. Results with Voluma are usually smoother as compared to various other dermal fillers because of its cutting edge VYCROSS technology. The gel created with this technology has a greater consistency and smoother composition. This helps the patient gain a more even facial appearance.

Sustainability of Results

On average, the anti-aging results with cosmetic fillers can last for anywhere between six and 12 months. However, with Juvederm Voluma, the patient can expect to enjoy sustainable results for as many as 18 to 24 months in most cases. Therefore, even from a monetary perspective, Voluma proves to be more cost-effective as well as conservative procedure.

Track record of safety with Juvederm Voluma is very high. It received the FDA approval only after rigorous tests and clinical trials. The injectable treatment is now approved in more than 70 countries, and receives consistently positive response from treatment experts and patients alike. Downtime involved is minimal with this procedure, which makes it preferable for busy moms and working women and men.

Laser Hair Removal | Medical Spa | Cosmetic Dermatology | Austin TX

Laser Hair Removal: Cost, Benefits, and Risks

Laser hair removal is one of the most popular cosmetic dermatology procedures in the US today. Results with an advanced laser based treatment are more sustainable and aesthetically superior compared to various traditional hair removal methods.

The treatment involves focusing of the laser beams directly over the targeted hair follicles. The pigment in the follicles absorbs laser light, which leads to the gradual weakening and disintegration of the unwanted hair. Dr. Steven Zimmet is an experienced dermatologist providing laser hair removal to patients in Austin, TX and other areas.

Benefits

Laser hair removal is an advanced skin care procedure designed to remove unwanted hair from areas such as the legs, arms, face, underarms, back, and the bikini line. High precision with the laser technology is a fantastic advantage because the treatment provider can selectively target coarse, dark hair while leaving the surrounding healthy skin undamaged.

Another key benefit of laser hair removal technique is that a larger area can be treated effectively in a short time. Each pulse of the laser energy is delivered in a fraction of a second, and it can treat multiple hairs at the same time.

On average, an area approximately the size of a quarter can be treated per second. Treatment of smaller areas such as skin around the lips can be treated in about one minute, while larger areas such as the legs or back may take nearly one hour.

Safety and predictability of results is another key benefit, as long as the laser hair removal treatment is received from an experienced dermatology expert. Dr. Zimmet is a leading dermatologist providing laser hair removal and other procedures to patients in Austin, TX and surrounding communities.

Procedure

Prior to the treatment, the laser expert will trim the targeted hair to a few millimeters above the skin surface. The laser equipment will be calibrated to match with the hair type, thickness, color, and location as well as skin color. The patient will be provided with an eye shield, and a cooling gel or another cooling technique may be applied to protect the top layer of the skin.

FAQ’s and More About Laser Hair Removal

Short and controlled pulses of laser light will be delivered to the targeted area. The treatment provider will carefully determine optimal laser delivery settings for safe and desirable outcomes. Following the procedure, the patient will be given cold water or ice packs to keep them comfortable. Multiple laser treatment sessions will be planned, with each session spaced about four to six weeks apart.

Financial Implications

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons estimates that the average dollar amount of a single laser hair removal treatment session in the US is about $235. However, this cost can vary from one practice to another depending on several factors such as the size of treatable area, number of treatments, and the laser expert’s skills and reputation.

Recovery

The treated area will appear sunburned for a day or two, and the condition can be eased with moisturizers and cool compresses. The treated hair will begin to fall out after about a month. Sunscreen should be used for several weeks to help prevent temporary color change in the treated areas.

When diet and exercise isn’t enough, a new ultrasound device may help to zap that super stubborn fat.

I’ve always felt strong and fit in my body. For workouts, I ride 30-plus miles on my bike, swim half a mile, and regularly rotate between barre, yoga and Spin classes. I’ve never paid much attention to the scale. I believed that since I was exercising and making (mostly) healthy food choices, I didn’t need to focus on weight. Right?

Then a dress felt snug before a friend’s wedding last spring. I blamed it on hormones, too much salt, even the innocent dry cleaner. I had become blind to the fact that I’d been relying on Spanx and flowy dresses rather than realize my clothing wasn’t fitting right. So I stepped up my workouts and eliminated processed carbs. I skipped dessert and avoided alcohol. But six weeks later I still had a pouch.

That’s how I ended up in the Manhattan office of dermatologist Dr. Dennis Gross, M.D. with a device the size of an ostrich egg sitting on my stomach. I was there to test out UltraShape®, a recently FDA-cleared machine that promises to blast away stubborn fat—the subcutaneous type that exercise and diet alone can’t tackle.

Unlike other popular body contouring procedures, UltraShape® doesn’t require extreme heat or cold to destroy fat: instead, it harnesses ultrasound waves, which “shake the fat cells until the membranes collapse,” explains Dr. Gross. Then the destroyed fat cell particles are filtered through the liver and digested through the body—just like fat from a meal. Interestingly, this process doesn’t harm any of your tissues, blood vessels or nerves, so there’s no recovery time. For that reason, Dr. Gross considers UltraShape® a “game-changer” in nonsurgical treatments. Read more

body 5Electrolysis is a widely recognized and time-tested skin care procedure designed to remove unwanted hair from the face or other parts of the body. With advanced electrolysis devices, it is possible to destroy the actual growth centers of the hair in a targeted manner. The procedure may involve the application of chemical or heat energy to achieve comprehensive outcomes. A very fine probe is inserted into the hair follicle, following which the hair is removed with tweezers.

As a cosmetic dermatology treatment, electrolysis can be used to treat unwanted hair in areas such as the face, eyebrows, legs, thighs, abdomen, and breasts. The technique does not involve long-term side effects usually, except for a temporary mild reddening of the treated areas. Zimmet Vein & Dermatology, headed by renowned dermatologist, Dr. Steven Zimmet, provides electrolysis treatment to patients in Austin, TX and nearby areas.

Key Facts

Electrolysis technique was developed over a century ago, and has continued to be popular even after the advent of cutting edge laser based hair removal technologies. Electrolysis is a preferred dermatology treatment because it can treat practically any area of the body efficiently with no permanent side effects.

The procedure is considered to be very safe because it does not burn, damage or disrupt health skin. Unlike some bleaches or depilatories, electrolysis technique does not involve the use of harsh chemicals. Highly experienced dermatologist, Dr. Zimmet, provides electrolysis and other innovative hair removal procedures to patients in Austin, TX and surrounding communities.

Number of Treatments

The extent of problem of unwanted hair will vary from one patient to another, which will impact the number of electrolysis treatments needed. However, in most cases, hair growth is influenced by several factors, making it necessary to receive multiple electrolysis treatments.

A majority of patients choose to space the treatment sessions once a week or once a fortnight. Once the series of treatments is completed, the unwanted hair will be eliminated permanently. A single treatment session may last from about 15 minutes to an hour, depending on the location and size of the treatable area and the density of hair growth.

Misconceptions Related to Electrolysis

Misconceptions are commonly prevalent about a procedure such as electrolysis, which must be cleared. One of the common misconceptions is that electrolysis is a painful procedure. The fact is that modern, advanced electrolysis techniques have brought down the discomfort level to a mere tingling situation in the skin. Sometimes the treatment provider may apply a topical anesthetic to keep the patient comfortable.

Another misconception is that electrolysis hair removal is not a permanent procedure. The fact is that electrolysis is the only technique recognized by the FDA and the American Medical Association as a permanent method to remove unwanted hair from the body.

Some people also believe that traditional hair removal methods are superior to electrolysis. However, in reality, traditional methods such as creams and lotions can cause skin irritation due to chemical use, and waxing and shaving can be harsh and may not provide very smooth skin.

The dermal filler Radiesse (calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) Merz North America) received FDA approval for hand augmentation to correct volume loss in the dorsum of the hands. The dermal filler provides a volumizing effect that can last up to 1 year.

In a randomized, controlled US trial, blinded evaluators reported that the dermal filler improved the appearance of both hands in 75% of treated patients at 3 months. Importantly, 98% of treated patients also reported improvement in the appearance of their hands at 3 months. Improved aesthetic outcomes as measured on the Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIS) after initial and repeat treatments correlating with clinical improvement were demonstrated in this study, with all primary and secondary endpoints being met. We’ve written before about the importance of protecting yourself from skin damage. Wearing sunscreen, choosing UV-protecting clothing, and staying out of the sun during peak hours will keep your skin as healthy as possible. Likewise, keeping track of moles–particularly those that are asymmetrical, multi-colored, and evolving–is a great technique to help prevent late melanoma diagnoses.

However, just because you do regular mole self-examinations doesn’t mean you should stop seeing your dermatologist. A study recently released by Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center indicates that physicians are more likely to find malignant moles that patients overlook, and find them earlier, which means the patient has a better chance of survival. The study shows that physician-found melanomas were up to 40% thinner than their patient-found counterparts, owing largely to the fact that dermatologists are trained to recognize smaller changes and abnormalities.

Of course, the study’s results should not discourage patients from performing regular, detailed self-examinations. Rather, patients should prioritize regular visits to the dermatologists and use self-exams to identify any moles that look abnormal. If you do find a mole that looks irregular, contact your dermatologist immediately: early diagnosis and treatment prevent skin cancer from becoming invasive.
