Does Botox Relieve Depression?

MedPage Today (5/22, Smith) reports, “Botulinum toxin A appears to be effective at relieving depression, according to a systematic review and meta-analysis” presented at the American Psychiatric Association’s annual meeting. The review of five studies revealed that “injections of the muscle-paralyzing drug into the forehead were associated with more than a fourfold increase in the chance of remission compared with placebo.” The studies “included fewer than 200 patients all told,” however.
