Austin Laser Hair Removal and Electrolysis
Laser hair removal is an alternative to hair removal creams, razors, waxing and electrolysis needles.
WHAT IS THE LASER HAIR REMOVAL PROCESS?
Laser Hair Removal uses a laser light to remove unwanted hair. This advanced technology transcends older, painful methods to deliver longer-lasting results.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF LASER HAIR REMOVAL?
Because the laser treats more than one hair at a time, it is possible to treat large areas such as the back, shoulders, arms, legs and face. Laser treatments leave your skin looking and feeling smoother and silkier.
Laser Hair Removal effectively treats almost any area of the body.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF THE LIGHTSHEER DIODE LASER SYSTEM ?
The LightSheer Diode Laser System was designed for laser hair removal, so it has the wavelength, fluency, pulse width and active epidermal cooling system which best suits laser hair removal.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
The number of treatments you require for optimal long-term benefits depends on the area you wish to treat, the hair color, the hair density and your hair’s growth cycle. Your hair grows in cycles and many factors influence its growth. Age, ethnicity, weight, hormones, diet, medication and metabolism all play a part in your hair’s location, thickness and resilience.
The laser slows the growing capacity of follicles in the growth cycle at the time of the treatment. Since some hair follicles may enter their growth cycle after your treatment, multiple treatments are required to deliver optimal results. Treatment results vary from patient to patient depending on skin and hair color.
Note: Removing hair does not make it grow back thicker, darker or quicker. The opposite is usually the case. The laser may cause hair to come back slower and thinner.
WHAT ARE THE LASER TREATMENTS LIKE?
First a cold gel is applied to the area to be treated. The laser tip is placed over the skin and a pulse of light is administered. The laser energy passes through the skin and is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle. The use of sunscreen is recommended on any treated areas exposed to the sun. If you have any skin care questions after laser hair removal, please contact Dr. Zimmet at (512) 485-7700.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR LASER HAIR REMOVAL APPOINTMENT?
Shave the area the night before treatment. Do not pluck or tweeze the hairs for about 4 weeks prior to treatment. However you may use depilatory creams, shave or clip the hairs.
Stay out of the sun, the area you wish to treat should not be tan at the time of treatment.
WHAT IS ELECTROLYSIS?
Electrolysis is a method of hair removal using a small burst of electrical current or heat to permanently stop the follicle’s ability to reproduce hair.
A tiny probe (similar in size to the individual hair shaft), is inserted into the natural opening of the hair follicle. When energy is applied to the probe, it destroys the hair growth cells.
WHEN IS ELECTROLYSIS USED?
In the last few years, lasers have become the most popular method of hair removal. The treatment is fast, efficient, with very pleasing results on patients with darker hair colors. However, if you are not a good candidate for a laser treatment (eg. light colored hair), you would be very disappointed with the results. Electrolysis becomes the perfect modality for those patients with light hair.
DOES ELECTROLYSIS HURT?
Electrolysis feels like a tiny stinging sensation. Most patients find it very tolerable. Patients who are very sensitive have the option of coming in the office 30 minutes before the appointment for application of a numbing cream.
WHAT IS THE RECOVERY LIKE?
It is common to have a small amount of redness or tiny bumps that generally about 30 min to one hour after treatment. Many patients go right back to their daily activities immediately afterwards. This varies somewhat with each patient. Soothing products are applied immediately following treatment, which usually provides for a very fast recovery.
MAY I TWEEZE, WAX OR SHAVE IN BETWEEN TREATMENTS?
We recommend that you avoid tweezing or waxing entirely. Shaving is recommended if you are bothered by growth in between treatments. We ask that you allow a short stubble of growth to appear for the day of treatment. Electrolysis can only be performed when the hair is long enough to be seen and grasped with a tweezer.
HAVE THERE BEEN ANY IMPROVEMENTS IN ELECTROLYSIS TECHNOLOGY?
Electrolysis has improved greatly over the past several years. Epilators provide faster, more comfortable treatments, with much less irritation.
HOW DOES THE COST OF ELECTROLYSIS COMPARE TO LASER HAIR REMOVAL?
Laser treatments cost more per visit, but electrolysis typically requires more visits. During the initial consult, our Electrologist will give you an estimate of cost and answer all your questions.
