What is Photo Rejuvenation Skin Treatment used for?

Photo Rejuvenation Skin Treatment | Austin DermatologyAdvanced photo rejuvenation skin care procedures have become an integral part of modern cosmetic dermatology. These treatments are particularly effective for enhancing the appearance of the face, neck, hands, arms, and chest.

Photo rejuvenation skin treatment is particularly helpful in addressing dermatology conditions such as hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone, rosacea, enlarged pores, sun damage, rough skin texture, and redness and flushing.

Photo rejuvenation skin treatments enable patients to transform red, blotchy, or imperfect skin into a glowing, more attractive, and youthful looking skin. Dr. Steven Zimmet is a dedicated dermatologist providing state of the art photo rejuvenation skin treatment and various other procedures. Dr. Zimmet provides these procedures to patients in Austin, TX, and surrounding communities.

How does it Work?

Following a photo rejuvenation skin care procedure, facial veins, discoloration, redness, and rough texture will typically improve. Today’s advanced pulsed light photo rejuvenation procedures rarely create any bruising or skin discoloration, unlike traditional techniques. Patients may require a series of treatment sessions spaced a few weeks apart from each other.

Dr. Zimmet employs intense pulsed light (IPL) and a few additional laser wavelengths with an advanced laser called VariLite. A combination of multiple light sources can produce better outcomes than a single source. A small beam of light will be emitted by the VariLite laser to target pigmentation such as fotofacial for freckles and other pigmented lesions as well as vascular lesions, such as broken capillaries and angiomas.

These conditions commonly occur in patients suffering from aging effects, sun damage, and rosacea. Dr. Zimmet’s dermatology practice is equipped with cutting edge laser and IPL technology to deliver optimal results with photo rejuvenation.

Who should Avoid Photo Rejuvenation?

In some cases, IPL photofacial procedures may cause altered skin pigmentation in patients with tanned or naturally dark skin. For instance, African Americans and people of certain other descents should discuss the possible side effects with the dermatologist before going ahead with these treatments.

Furthermore, individuals who are using the medication Accutane should avoid having an IPL photofacial until at least six months after they have stopped taking the drug. Pregnant woman should also avoid this treatment. Experienced dermatologist Dr. Zimmet receives patients from Austin, TX, and nearby areas for photo rejuvenation skin treatments.

Photo Rejuvenation vs. Photodynamic Therapy

Moderate conditions of acne scars, rosacea, sun damage, and aging effects can be effectively treated with an IPL photofacial. However, when the condition of skin imperfections looks particularly severe, photodynamic therapy (PDT) may be preferable.

PDT is slightly more invasive, but may be necessary in some cases. Both IPL photo rejuvenation and PDT support fresh production of collagen to mitigate the effects of aging and enhance skin tone.

Photo Rejuvenation vs. Laser Skin Resurfacing

IPL photo rejuvenation is a completely non-invasive way to minimize the impact of light wrinkles and fine lines, moderate sun damage, and enlarged pores. But laser skin resurfacing is relatively more intensive, and can address deeper skin problems such as severe skin damage, acute acne scarring, and prominent wrinkles, employing the intensity of targeted laser beams.
