When one has plump and full lips, it is regarded as a symptom of a person being in good health. You may have been born with thin lips or it may so happen that your lips are getting thinner due to the aging process, which is a natural phenomena. If you have either of these issues, you should stop worrying as there are several scientific ways of enhancing them. Applying lip injections using either synthetic or natural fillers can make your lips look for several months at a stretch.

Lip augmentation

A cosmetic surgery can give you plumper and fuller lips and the procedure is popularly known as lip augmentation. Presently, dermal filler is injected to accomplish this task and is the most popular method of lip augmentation procedure. There are several kinds of dermal fillers that may be injected either around your mouth or in your lips. However the most common fillers that are used now-a-days for lip enhancement are all such products that constitute of ingredients similar to hyaluronic acid. This acid is a natural substance that is located inside the human body. Hyaluronic acid enables enhancing volume in one’s lips. Thus, this type of dermal filler is also referred to as “Hyaluronic acid fillers”.
Collagen was the most widely used dermal filler earlier and is still in use today. However, as technology has advanced, newer options are now available in the market whose effects last for a longer duration. Though implants and fat injections are other methodologies to enhance lips but their uses have come down now as the results may vary from person to person and there is a higher risk of side effects. Of course a medical practitioner will always be the best person to recommend the method that is best for you to enhance your lips.
Since a very long time, sensual and full lips are regarded as an aesthetic ideality. Lip augmentation with dermal fillers can plump up your lips and thus enhance the appearance of your entire face. Women, who have thin lips can particularly benefit from enhancing their lips. After completion of a lip augmentation procedure, the recovery time is relatively short thus making lip enhancement procedure as one of the simplest ways to make your face look extremely appealing.

Skin Cancer Foundation: A form of Vitamin B3 may reduce skin cancer

Australian researchers recently released a study abstract revealing that Nicotinamide, a form of vitamin B3, significantly reduces the incidence of nonmelanoma skin cancers among people who have had a previous basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma. The researchers conducted a year-long study of 386 people, who averaged 66 years old. Half of the people in the study took 500 milligrams of Nicotinamide (Vitamin B3) twice a day and the other half were put on a placebo. The researchers found that people who took vitamin B3 twice a day cut their chances of developing new skin cancers by 23 percent. Read more… Read more

As Seen in the Miami Herald: Fat-melting treatment

Fat-melting treatment can work for some

BY DR. LESLIE BAUMANN

In the past, liposuction was the only way to win the battle against stubborn fat, but that all changed when non-invasive fat-melting treatments began to hit the market a few years ago. Based on the data I’ve seen, UltraShape® and Liposonix appear to be the most effective, and both of these treatments permanently destroy fat cells that are resistant to a healthy diet and exercise.

UltraShape® requires a series of treatments and Liposonix works after just one. I’ve also found that combining the two yields the most dramatic results. Both of these treatments use ultrasound, which literally vibrates the fat cells until they burst. Then the body naturally expels the remains of the cells. Liposonix recently introduced a new treatment protocol, so although it was uncomfortable when it first came out, now it’s relatively painless.

One of my patients was willing to share her UltraShape® journey:

First treatment

The first order of business was determining whether I was a candidate for UltraShape®. Since I was able to pinch (more than) an inch on my stomach, I was! Then I had “before” pictures taken, was weighed and the circumference of my stomach was measured. To prepare for the treatment, surgical tape was used to smush all of my fat together, and stickers were placed around it so the machine would know where to target. Read more

As Seen On LivingHealthy.com: Belly Fat Begone with UltraShape®

ultrashape in living healthy“Stubborn belly fat” is just another random ad on Facebook—until it happens to you. Now I know firsthand what those ads are talking about. I just wanted to be able to close the buttons on my Frank & Eileen fitted shirts, but my newly formed pooch of stomach fat was getting in the way.

Luckily, UltraShape® was approved last year by the FDA to treat this midlife curse. It’s a noninvasive treatment that uses ultrasonic vibration to destroy fat cells. It works by “cavitation,” the medical term for shaking the fat cells until the cell walls break apart and release the stored triglycerides (fat). It’s the same technology used to destroy kidney stones. The released fat is then processed through the liver and metabolized naturally. Read more

Type of Dermal Fillers

Type of Derma FillersAny natural dermal filler is designed in a manner that can help in restoration of volume and skin’s fullness so that facial wrinkles and folds like nasolabial folds can be corrected. Nasolabial fold are lines to the mouth from the outside of your nose. There are excellent collagen stimulators and dermal fillers in the market that can not only reduce your wrinkles but also solve other problems such as enhance lips, smooth scars, restore volume loss and thus help you in looking refreshed and younger.
It is often a big challenge to determine the best filler that would be ideal to meet your specific facial need with several options available in the market for the consumers. Some filler can be more effective on various areas of a face and the numbers of treatments that one may need may vary depending on the condition of the skin. While superficial lines may respond quite well to a single treatment, a face with deeper wrinkles may need several visits.
Here is a quick discussion on some of the types of dermal fillers that are available in the market at present.

Blood based fillers

This filler as is obvious from its name uses the blood of the patient itself as filler by collecting platelets and fibrin which are then injected back into a patient’s body for stimulating collagen growth. They can be used on laugh lines, frown lines between your brows, post-op scars and acne. Since own blood of the patient is used in the procedure, there is no chance of an allergic reaction and the effects are supposed to stay for at least 18 months.

Calcium-based fillers

Calcium-based fillers can add volume to folds and wrinkles and also help in stimulating collagen production so that fullness to the patient’s face can be restored. The filler is excellent if a patient has deeper folds around the mouth.

Hyauronic acid

The acid constitutes of complex sugars that are natural to a body and can retain water just like a sponge. It uniqueness is the ability to absorb over several times its actual weight and thus plump the skin of a patient in this process. While the first filler may last for about 4 to 6 months, subsequent treatments may last up to a year.
Poly-L-lactic acid-based fillers
These fillers work to replace your lost collagen through a series of treatments. On an average, about 3 injection sessions are required to be administered over a time period of few months. These fillers can subtly and gradually correct the wrinkles on the face and would last for a maximum period of 2 years.
You need not decide on which filler you would be opting for prior to your appointment. During the consultation with an expert dermatologist, your clinician and you can jointly decide the most appropriate filler for you based on the depth of your wrinkles, the exact location that needs to be treated, your age and many other factors.
You can call at (512) 485-7700 for setting up your appointment with Dr. Steven Zimmet at Zimmet Vein & Dermatology in Austin Tx. He will help you with all your skin concerns and guide you to determine whether filler or any other minimally invasive treatment is appropriate for your skin care.
