Dr. Steven Zimmet is an internationally regarded dermatologist, based in Austin, Texas, providing a wide range of vein, cosmetic, and medical dermatology procedures.

In addition to his private practice, Dr. Zimmet and his team also participate in various local philanthropic efforts including their latest: providing complimentary radiation tattoo removal for breast cancer patients.

Complimentary Removal of Radiation Tattoos

Dr. Zimmet has entered into a partnership with Susan G. Komen® Austin and Breast Cancer Resource Center (BCRC) to address a specific aesthetic need for those who have been treated for breast cancer: the removal of radiation tattoo markers.

Many who have had breast cancer are left with permanent tattoo markers on their skin post radiation treatment. For suitable candidates bothered by their presence, removal by an experienced dermatologist is an option. Dr. Zimmet and his team are providing complimentary removal of radiation tattoos for those who have been through this treatment and have clearance from their oncologist to have the marks removed.

What are Radiation Tattoos?

Radiation therapy may involve the use of tattoos, applied by the radiation therapist, to precisely mark and target the area to be treated. These tattoos are usually about one to two millimeters in size and are permanent.

If you would like to learn more or to make an appointment to have your radiation tattoo markers removed by Dr. Zimmet, please contact us at (512) 485-7700.

Botox® Can Treat Depression

Botox® Cost depression treatmentLooking good is important for most people. Obviously, looking good is linked to our self worth and confidence. Even if you don’t really think about the way you look, the psychological component is hardwired in our brains and that is why a compliment on our looks brightens up your day. Botox® has been used for years to reduce the signs of aging but some new research is now suggesting that it can also be used to fight depression.

How can Botox® help deal with depression

Depression is a serious issue that is affecting a large portion of the American population. For years, the tools to fight it have been counseling sessions with a psychiatrist and drugs that seek to alter the brain chemistry. Although these have been successful, doctors are always on the lookout for new and more efficient techniques, one of which is botox.

Botulinum Toxin A or Botox® , as it is commonly known, has been used in cosmetic surgery for skin care many years now. Its effects include reducing of wrinkles, tightening of skin, and youthful looks. What botox does is that it paralyses the so-called frown muscles (the muscles responsible for frowning). This means that the patient cannot form any expressions that show negative emotions such as sadness.

By some accounts, this inability to show negative emotions manifests itself in the brain as an inability to form a negative mood. Dr. Steven Zimmet who has been a dermatologist in Austin, TX for over thirty years feels that this idea might have some substance to it. He has used Botox® in his dermatology practice extensively and has often felt patients to have a more positive outlook after such a treatment.

Skin care after Botox®

Even though botox has become very popular, it still remains a toxin that is injected in to your face. That means proper precautions need to be taken for your skin care after a Botox® treatment. Dermatologist recommends that you –

1. Do not touch the skin where Botox® was administered for at least 24 hours after the treatment and absolutely no rubbing of the area. This can spread the toxin to unintended areas and can cause complications.

2. Do not consume alcohol.

3. Avoid skin treatments for up to 24 hours after the treatment. This means no facials, chemical peels, or micro-dermabrasion for you.

4.  If you are on blood thinning medication, avoid taking it soon after Botox® treatment. Discuss with your doctor how long you should do this.

5. Botox® bruises can occur. To get rid of them try a topical vitamin K and arnica cream.

As explained above, botox is not just a tool for getting rid of your wrinkles and getting you a more youthful look anymore. Used correctly, it can become a great way to counter and maybe even cure depression in individuals. Researchers are working hard to scientifically prove this link and when they are able to do so, doctors, both in dermatology and psychiatry will be happy get a tool that they can use together for both their fields.

Your Austin Cosmetic Dermatologist

dr-zimmet austin dermatologistSkin care is important, and most of us do try to make it a priority. However, with passing time and advancing age, the skin start to look dull and lose its youthful features. Of course, you can eat healthy and exercise to delay the effects of age, but the signs are inevitable. The best way to get that glow back in your skin is to get in touch with a dermatologist and work with them.

How can a Austin dermatologist help you

Dr. Steven Zimmet, a renowned dermatologist who has worked in Austin, TX for over 30 years says that a good dermatologist has many ways to help you get your youthful skin back including –

1. Firming up of skin This is one of the most popular treatments opted for by people all over. Sound waves and infra red light are used to stimulate collagen production by causing microscopic fissures. This leads to the firming up of skin in areas such as the cheek, jowls, neck , knees and so on.

2. Getting rid of fine lines – Lines on the face can give a look of advancing age to your skin. Dermatology has the tools to get rid of these lines, especially if they are fine in nature. A new filler has been approved that is quite effective in smoothing out these lines and giving you a younger look. The needle used only goes to the top layers of the skin, thus the chances of bruising is almost negligible.

3. Giving you a quick nose job We are not talking about a surgery here. As you age, the nose flattens and widens. This effect can be reversed with fillers that can give you a more shapely nose in just ten minutes. It can even correct other bumps and imperfections, making you look even more beautiful.

Choosing the right dermatologist

While all these procedures are possible to get a new you, it is essential to get a good dermatologist to get this work done. There are a number of dermatologists available but it is not simply a matter of choosing the closest one. A botched job can make you look very bad and you can lose your money as well as your looks. These are some of the things you should do to make sure you get a qualified dermatologist.

1. Check their credentials – Your dermatologist must be board certified from the American Association of Dermatology and should have the requisite academic qualifications as well. It is always better to go with someone who has a ton of experience in this field.

2. Get a consultation first – A good way to start off with your search is to get a consultation from a few dermatologists in the area. Discuss your issues with them and get to know their thoughts on them. It is important that you feel comfortable with the person giving you a new look and this is an easy way to check the level of comfort.

Getting your youth back is important as your looks don’t just matter to others, it also helps in boosting your self confidence and giving you a better self image. A good dermatologist can be the difference for you. Choose your dermatologist carefully and all your skin care needs will be taken care off easily and without hassles.
