Preventing Sun Damage

Preventing Sun Damage

Although the sun is great for lots of outdoor activities, it can also be very dangerous. Prolonged sun exposure can lead to painful sunburn short-term, and conditions as serious as skin cancer later on down the road.

To help you protect yourself from the sun, here are some useful tips:

  • Wear sunscreen. This is the most obvious way to keep your skin protected from the sun’s harmful UV rays. Less obvious: make sure to get broad spectrum sunscreen that protects against both UVA and UVB rays.
  • Keep track of the time. The sun’s harmful rays are at their most intense between 10am and 4pm. Try to avoid being in the sun for extended periods of time during these times, and if you can’t avoid it, reapply sunscreen frequently.
  • Wear a hat. This simple clothing option will do wonders for protecting your head and your face.
  • Be mindful of your latitude. The closer you are to the equator, the closer you are to the sun. This means that the sun’s rays will harm your skin more quickly when you’re on that tropical vacation.

Ultherapy® Gets a Makeover

We have exciting news for fans of Ultherapy®!

Ulthera, the medical device company that supplies doctors with the therapeutic ultrasound platform technology, has just unveiled its new software upgrade: Ulthera Amplify. The system upgrade means great things for patients and doctors alike. Updated treatment guidelines provide a more comfortable patient experience without decreasing effectiveness. For practitioners, the upgrade includes a more visual and intuitive user interface. This will allow Dr. Zimmet the ability to better navigate through the treatment procedure.

“This is a significant enhancement to the system that reflects our continued commitment to responding to the needs of our physician customers and their patients,” said Matthew Likens, president and CEO of Ulthera. “We are happy to say that Ultherapy® Amplify addresses the critical factors of comfort, efficiency and optimizing outcomes, all the while ensuring the treatment’s reputation for safety is maintained.”

He continues, “Physicians can rest assured that when they purchase our system, Ulthera will continue to add value to their investment during each year of ownership, whether it be through a no-charge software upgrade, new clinical indications, additional transducers or enhanced marketing support. In fact, on the heels of this system upgrade… we are aggressively pursuing more clinical indications as evidenced by the recent FDA clearance for the device to lift tissue on the neck and under the chin.”

New to Ultherapy®?

Ultherapy® is a non-surgical approach to lifting and tightening skin on the brow, neck, and under the chin. Dr. Zimmet Receives Patients’ Choice Award

Every year, the Patients’ Choice Award is distributed to outstanding medical professionals who excel at patient care, follow-up consistency and courtesy. This year—for the third year in a row—Dr. Zimmet was selected for the award.

Award selection is based on monthly feedback from patients nationwide, which is collected and measured by MDX Medical Inc., an independent research company. According to company’s website, “Patients’ Choice recognition reflects the difference a particular physician has made in the lives of their patients. The honor is bestowed to physicians who have received near perfect scores as voted by patients.” While positive endorsements of patients’ doctors are common, only a select few doctors receive consistently rave reviews across all categories. Of the nation’s 830,000 practicing doctors, Dr. Zimmet was in the top 5 percent who were rated very highly by patients, and who received this award.

In addition to the Patients’ Choice Award and his admittance to The Registry of Business Excellence, Dr. Zimmet has previously been awarded entry into the Best Doctors of America  2011-2012 database and named a Top Physician by The Consumers Research Council of America. His dedication to patient care, research and medical leadership have resulted in consistent, frequent recognition by professional organizations like Patients’ Choice.

Vein Evaluation Facts

Are you troubled by the appearance of your veins? The most common vein problems are spider veins and varicose veins. Both involve inflammation and discoloration of veins, with varicose veins being larger and spider veins being smaller.

Although the difference in coloration is the easiest way to spot vein problems, more information needs to be collected in order to assess the treatment option best suited for a given vein problem.

In order to determine which vein treatment is best for a patient, we conduct a duplex ultrasound vein evaluation. This simple process involves a combination of traditional ultrasound and Doppler ultrasonography.

The traditional ultrasound gives Dr. Zimmet a picture of the vein structure, while the Doppler ultrasound allows Dr. Zimmet to see the flow of the blood within the vein. This dual information gives Dr. Zimmet an idea of what exactly is going wrong in your veins, which enables him to give you the treatment that’s right for you.

Fortunately, the process is noninvasive and painless. In order to facilitate the ultrasound imaging, a specialized gel is placed over the area in question, and the ultrasound wand is moved across it.

Once we have performed a vein evaluation with duplex ultrasound, we use the information from the procedure to decide which treatment is best for you, whether it’s sclerotherapy, laser & pulsed light treatment, ambulatory phlebectomy, or endovenous laser treatment.

If you’re suffering from spider veins or varicose veins, contact Zimmet Vein & Dermatology today for a vein evaluation.
