With this technique, sclerotherapy is done while the doctor visually monitors the vein on an ultrasound screen. This enables treatment of veins which can’t be seen because they are below the surface of the skin. It is an alternative to surgical stripping and endovenous ablation procedures.
Usually, sclerotherapy of surface veins is done at the same time. Treatment takes about 20-30 minutes and is done under local anesthesia. Most patients express surprise at the treatment’s speed and ease.
After treatment we ask you to walk on our treadmill for15 – 20 minutes. You should do aerobic activity, such as walking or biking, for about an hour per day for a week. We will also provide you with a compression stocking, to be worn for one week. Finally, avoid hot baths, heavy lifting and long travel for a week. Patients may resume any other normal daily activities.
It’s very important your treating physician be extremely experienced with the diagnosis of varicose veins, ultrasound, sclerotherapy, ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy and other treatment options. Discuss your physician’s qualifications prior to pursuing any vein treatments.
