Your skin is the largest organ in your body, and it’s extremely absorptive. Ingredients in creams, lotions, and sunscreens could end up in your bloodstream, which is why it’s very important to choose high-quality products that are approved by your dermatologist.
Recently, several Texans learned this lesson the hard way. Within a short period of time, 18 individuals who live in South Texas tested positive for increased levels of mercury in their blood after using a facial cream they had bought in Mexico, Crema Aguamary. When the Texas Department of State Health Services tested the cream, results showed mercury levels at thousands of times more than is legal for products sold in the United States.
Crema Aguamary is not sold in Texas, but the individuals who had mercury poison had purchased the cream in Mexico and brought it across the border. Health officials are warning residents, especially those close to the border, to refrain from buying health supplies in Mexico.
Consumption of mercury, including absorption through the skin, can result in digestive tract, kidneys, and nervous system dysfunction or failure. We suggest purchasing high quality products from your trusted dermatologist.
