Dermal Fillers for Soft, Supple, Natural Looking Results
As our skin ages, the dermis loses support and volume, leading to wrinkles and folds. Dermal fillers are commonly used to reduce or eliminate wrinkles, smooth depressed scars, enhance lips and replace soft-tissue volume loss. Dermal fillers are minimally invasive and require little downtime. There are often used on the face, but can also restore volume for the back of the hands.
Dr. Zimmet generally recommends hyaluronic acid fillers such as Juvederm Ultra™ XC, Juvederm UltraPlus™ XC, Juvederm Voluma XC, Belotero Balance, and Restylane® for their combination of safety, smooth and natural appearance and good duration. Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of human skin and is the framework in which skin cells live.
In some cases, Radiesse is used for its volumizing effect and stimulating effect on collagen production.
A filler substance is injected beneath the surface of the skin where it temporarily plumps and smoothes the skin. There are several classes of dermal fillers that are FDA approved, including collagen, hyaluronic acid and calcium hydroxyl apatite-based fillers — each with different properties and characteristics.
The filler used is chosen based on what is being treated. Juvederm Voluma is an excellent filler for restoring lost volume in the cheeks. It is very lifting, well tolerated, and lasts an average of 2 years. Fillers such as Juvederm Ultra and UltraPlus are used for restoring volume in the temples, and for treating nasolabial folds, oral commissures, marionette lines, and other areas of the face. Belotero is most commonly used to treat fine, superficial lines and the tear trough area. Radiesse is a good choice to restore volume to the back of the hands.
The results of dermal fillers are visible immediately following the treatment, adding volume and smooth contours to your skin. Results typically last up to 9 months, although some treatments can last more than 12. Results from Voluma last up to 2 years or more.
Ideal candidates will have mild to severe facial wrinkles, volume loss, facial lines or scars. This includes volume loss of the cheeks and/or temples, smile lines, marionette lines, vertical upper lip lines and other wrinkles and folds. Fillers can be used to restore volume to the back of the hands.
Candidates should not have a history of allergies to lidocaine or gram-positive bacterial proteins or have multiple severe allergies.
