Laser Hair Removal and Electrolysis

Zimmet Vein & Dermatology offers IPL and laser hair removal and electrolysis for patients looking for long-term removal of unwanted body hair. Unwanted hair on the face, neck, back, arms or bikini area can be a source of embarrassment to many people who have genetically inherited the problem or suffer from a hormonal imbalance like PCOS. Though popular, shaving, tweezing and waxing are only short-term solutions to unwanted hair. Laser hair removal and electrolysis can offer patients a long-term reduction in hair.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
The number of treatments required for optimal long-term benefits depends on many factors, including the area being treated, hair color, hair density and the hair’s growth cycle. Since some hair follicles may enter their growth cycle after your treatment, multiple treatments are required to deliver optimal results.

The laser tip is placed over the skin and a pulse of light is administered. The energy passes through the skin and is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle. For localized areas we may apply a topical numbing cream. We always use cooling to reduce discomfort and optimize treatment results. The process is less painful than other treatments, such as electrolysis.

How Does Electrolysis Work?
Electrolysis works by targeting the follicle to destroy the hair at the root using a low level electrical current. Electrolysis can be used to treat people of any color, and light as well as dark hairs.
Hair Removal Results
By following the treatment plan recommended by your aesthetician, you can see long-term removal of unwanted hair with laser hair removal. To see optimal results, do not wax or tweeze the hair in the area being treated for at least six weeks before your session.
Ideal Candidates for Laser Hair Removal
The best candidates for laser hair removal are patients with pigment in their hair as well as relatively light skin. Areas to be treated should not be tan. Because white and gray hairs don’t absorb enough of the laser energy to disable the hair follicle, they do not respond well to laser hair removal. Electrolysis is a better choice on light colored hair.
