Cryolipolysis: A New Non-Invasive Method to Reduce Fat
Hey Austin! Look for CoolSculpting ® in a new “In the Know” segment on both Good Morning America and Today.
CoolSculpting ® is a new, FDA-cleared, non-invasive treatment offered at our Austin office designed to gently and effectively reduce fat in targeted areas of the body. The result – a noticeable, natural-looking reduction in fat. The CoolSculpting ® treatment uses advanced cooling technology to selectively target fat bulges and eliminate fat cells through a gradual process that does not harm the surrounding tissues. Patients typically reduce unwanted abdominal fat, or love handles (flanks).
During the CoolSculpting ® treatment in our Austin office, a non-invasive applicator is applied to the skin surface to deliver precisely controlled cooling to target and eliminate fat cells in specific areas of the body. As they are exposed to cooling, the fat cells begin a process of natural cell removal. The fat cells in the treated area are gradually eliminated through the body’s normal metabolic processes, similar to how fat from food is eliminated. The result is a reduction in fat bulges that is visible in most patients in about two to four months. Fat Cell FAQs

How Coolsculpting ® Works
Coolsculpting ® takes advantage of the fact that fat cells are more susceptible to cold than other tissue. After CoolSculpting ® treatment, an inflammatory response occurs, which causes the body to naturally dispose of the damaged fat cells. This leads to a significant improvement in the shape of the body in about 8 out of 10 patients.
The Science Behind Coolsculpting ®
The initial cryolipolysis research and testing on patients was conducted by Drs. Dieter Manstein and R. Rox Anderson at The Wellman Center at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, a teaching affiliate for Harvard Medical School.
Does Coolsculpting ® Hurt?
With this non-invasive treatment, there are no needles, no incisions, and no need for anesthesia. The CoolSculpting ® treatment is comfortable for most patients; patients typically read, work on your laptop computer, listen to music or just relax.
Austin Coolsculpting In-Office Treatment
The Coolsculpting ® treatment is performed in our Austin office. During the hour-long CoolSculpting ® treatment, tissue is drawn into a cup with mild vacuum pressure. Patients may also be slightly uncomfortable with the contact of the cold as the treatment begins, which usually goes away after the first 10 minutes or so. Most patients typically resume their routine activities, including returning to work and exercise regimens on the same day as the treatment.
What Are the Results of CoolSculpting ®?
After the CoolSculpting ® treatment the cooled fat cells begin to undergo “apoptosis,” a process where they begin to shrink. These damaged fat cells are gradually digested and removed. Coolsculpting ® has been shown to be highly effective for local areas of fat like love-handles. Typical reductions average between 20%-25% of fat in the area treated.
Who Are the Best Candidates?
The best candidate for CoolSculpting ® is someone who is in reasonably good shape, but has modest areas of fat bulges. This is not meant to replace healthy eating or exercise. This is not a method to achieve significant weight loss. If you would like to know whether this treatment is right for you, contact our Austin Coolsculpting ® specialists.
Are There Side Effects?
The side effects of CoolSculpting ® are typically mild and temporary. The skin is usually red after treatment, but normally clears within a few hours. Other side effects include temporary bruising, tingling, tenderness and temporary numbing in the area. About 1/2500 patients experience significant pain, redness, minor bruising, numbness or discomfort in treated areas, but only temporarily.
CoolSculpting ® Testimonials
“I’ve been going to Dr. Zimmet for more than 10 years. I have tried other dermatologists in
Austin, but none have Dr. Zimmet’s expertise as a phlebologist, nor have I found any other
doctors that match Dr. Zimmet’s professionalism and patient care. He even trains other doctors.
One of the great aspects of Zimmet Vein & Dermatology when it comes to laser and cosmetic
services is that a trained dermatologist does the treatment. This is not the case with other medical
centers. In my opinion, this assures the best results with fewer potential problems.
All of the staff at Zimmet Vein & Dermatology is also great — friendly, discreet, professional.
And, the office and patient rooms are clean and comfortable.
I only wish I could find equivalent service for other areas of health care!”
-J.R.
“As long as there is Dr. Steven Zimmet, there is absolutely no one else that I would trust with my
skin! During the many years that I have been a patient, I appreciate his extreme attention to the
individual person. Dermatology has so many really complex areas. I am grateful to Dr. Zimmet
for his world-class expertise in treating problem veins in my legs and massive poison ivy, to the
aesthetics of refining aging and sun-damaged skin. I love knowing that his state-of-the-art clinic
matches the highest level of medicine.
Another critical point – this is a doctor and staff who treat you with the utmost discretion. You
are not a number on a file. They all know who you really are and respect your individual privacy
and needs.
I get compliments on my skin (a lot!), it is Dr. Zimmet whom I credit.”
