WRINKLES & AGING SKIN

Wrinkles and Aging Skin

Fine lines, folds and creases in the skin surface as we age.  Skin wrinkling can also be accelerated by too much sun exposure, years of smoking, environmental factors, poor nutrition, and from damage related to muscle contraction that occurs with facial expressions.

The Age of Your Skin

In your mid-20’s, the natural aging process begins.  While regeneration of new skin cells and collagen production slows down, noticeably visual signs of aging may not appear until your late 30’s and 40’s.   During these mid-life decades, many people notice fine lines and subtle cracks appearing on the forehead, eyes and lips. Pores start to enlarge.  In the 50’s and 60’s, you lose skin elasticity.  Eyelids droop, cheeks appear hollowed, and your neck, arms, thighs and hands lose firmness.  Additionally, facial volume loss results in sagging skin.

A Wrinkle Map

Wrinkles can appear on many locations on your face and body.

Face Forward

The act of repeatedly scrunching your face or squinting results in forehead wrinkles appearing vertically above the nose, in between your eyebrows.  Horizontal wrinkles will also show up on your forehead.  There are three types of wrinkles and aging changes that manifest around the eyes including crow’s feet, bags, and tear troughs.  Vertical upper lip wrinkles develop, and deeper lines sometimes called  ”parentheses” can show up on either side of the lip corners. Like rings of a tree trunk, neck wrinkles form around the neck in a series of circles or rings.

Get It Off Your Chest

Chest wrinkles are a common sign of aging.  Wrinkles appear horizontally as skin loses muscle tone and gravity takes over, dragging the chest skin downward.

Wrinkle Treatment Options
