QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE ABOUT TREATMENT WITH THE PHOTODERMŽ VL/PL:

WHAT IS PHOTODERMŽVASCULIGHT PLUS?

PhotoDermŽ Vasculight Plus is a revolutionary medical device which uses patented technology, combining the ability to deliver intense pulsed light as well as laser, to eliminate benign vascular and pigmented lesions as well as unwanted hair non-invasively.

HOW DOES PHOTODERMŽ VASCULIGHT PLUS WORK ON VEINS?

PhotoDermŽ Vasculight Plus enables the use of either intense pulsed light or laser light to penetrate the skin, raising the temperature of the blood vessel and safely coagulating it. Over time the vessel fades and slowly disappears.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN DURING THE TREATMENT?

The physician will discuss your case with you. Photographs are usually taken. You will be asked to read and sign a consent form. Gel will be applied to the areas to be treated. Treatment consists of placing a handpiece on the skin surface over the area to be treated and administering light pulses.

IS THE PROCESS PAINFUL?

PhotoDermŽ Vasculight Plus emits light in very short flashes called pulses. This may feel like a grease splatter or burning sensation. It usually lasts a few minutes, but can last longer. By using cold gel on the skin to be treated, and with topical anesthetic, discomfort can be mininized./p> HOW MANY TREATMENT SESSIONS WILL IT TAKE?

This depends on what is being treated. Fotofacial is a series of generally five treatments done at monthly intervals. Any one lesion may require several treatments.

HOW MUCH IMPROVEMENT WILL I HAVE?

Fading is often excellent but varies from patient to patient. It is impossible to predict what level of improvement any one patient will have. It can take several months to see the final result. Treated leg veins may look worse at first. Realistic expectations for improvement and not perfection are essential.

WHAT TYPE OF POST-TREATMENT CARE IS NECESSARY?

Care for the treated areas gently. We will recommend a gel you can use for discomfort as needed. Avoid sun exposure for about 3 months. You will be given written instructions at the time of treatment.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

Treated areas may appear red and/or bruised. Pain is generally mild and transient. Swelling and /or blistering and crusting can occur. Scarring is very unusual. Some patients may have lightening or darkening of the skin. This is usually temporary (but may take several months to clear) but can be permanent. Permanent hair loss in the treated area can occur. Other side effects are uncommon.

ARE THERE ANY CONTRAINDICATIONS?

Patients on blood thinners or with serious illness generally are not candidates for treatment. Patients with dark suntans or photosensitivity disorders are not good candidates. Patients with somewhat darker skin tones can be treated with the 1064 laser component of the PhotoDermŽ Vasculight Plus. Other contraindications include diabetes, bleeding disorders, and photosensitizing medications.

WHAT OTHER INSTRUCTIONS ARE THERE?

Do not take aspirin for 1 week prior to or after treatment. Do not use mousse on your hair the day of treatment. Sun exposure should be avoided for 2 months before and 3 months after treatment. If we are going to treat hair, please shave about 1-2 days before treatment.
