Spa Services Microdermabrasion

Austin Microdermabrasion Specialists

Microdermabrasion is an exciting alternative to chemical peels and laser resurfacing. It can be used to rejuvenate sun-damaged skin, as well as treat fine lines, acne scars, chicken pox scars, blackheads, enlarged pores, and pigmentation. It can also be useful in treating stretch marks. Facial and non-facial skin may be treated.

This in-office procedure uses a highly controlled vacuum to move microscopically abrasive crystals over the surface of the skin. The outer layer of skin is gently removed. By repeating this process over several weeks, younger-looking softer skin moves to the surface, generally with significant improvement in the texture and appearance of the skin. Anesthesia is not required. There is typically no significant down time or recovery period. View additional information about Mega Peel Inc.

QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE ABOUT MICRODERMABRASION:

HOW MUCH IMPROVEMENT WILL I HAVE?

Although most patients obtain significant improvement, realistic expectations are essential. Improvement rather than perfection is the goal. Improvement will vary on an individual basis. In some cases, additional forms of treatment may be required.

HOW LONG BEFORE I SEE RESULTS?

Most patients require a minimun of 5 treatments, generally done about 7-10 days apart. Additional treatments may be needed. Improvement is usually noted within the first few treatments.

IS THE PROCESS PAINFUL?

Treatment is routinely done in the office and anesthesia is not required. Discomfort is typically mild.

WHAT SHOULD I DO BEFORE TREATMENT?

It is always a good idea to use good suncare.

WHAT TYPE OF POST-TREATMENT CARE IS NECESSARY?

We will apply a lotion to your skin immediately after treatment and will recommend one for home use. Please use a sunscreen daily. Make-up may be reapplied right after treatment. However, if we have treated you for blackheads, we recommend that you don't use make-up 2 days. Do not use Retin-A, retinol, vitamin c, or alpha hydroxyacid products for about 2 days after treatment.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO HEAL AND ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

You will probably have a flushed look for a day or so. Healing is generally quick and uneventful. Discoloration could occur, but will usually be temporary. Infection, scarring and other complications are extremely rare.

ARE THERE ANY CONTRAINDICATIONS TO TREATMENT?

Sunburn, active fever blisters, and warts (in the treatment area) are contraindications to treatment. Patients on blood thinners, a history of facial radiation treatment, diabetes, HIV or other serious illness generally are not candidates for treatment.
